Greenpeace Australia Pacific calls for political parties to ratify Global Ocean Treaty to protect Australia’s oceans from threats like industrial fishing, climate change, and plastic pollution. Despite Australia adopting the treaty in 2023, it has yet to become law. 110 countries have signed the treaty, with 17 ratifying it. Greenpeace urges Australia to lead by example and ratify the treaty at the upcoming UN Ocean Conference in June. This move would allow for the creation of marine sanctuaries in the high seas to protect the ocean’s health and biodiversity.
