Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and the 60th anniversary of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. Governments must commit to ending structural racism following international human rights law. Racism, especially anti-Black racism, is deeply rooted in colonialism, apartheid, and slavery. Reparations are necessary for communities affected by historic injustices. The rise of racist rhetoric worldwide highlights the need for governments to prioritize anti-racism in policymaking to achieve equity and nondiscrimination.
